      (10)
  3. Q. 3
    (20)
    • (a)
Let T:X→YT: X \rightarrow Y be a linear transformation from a vector space XX into a Vector space YY. Prove that Kernal of TT is a subspace.
      (10)
    • (b)
Find the value of λ\lambda such that the system of equations
      (10)
      x+λy+3z=04x+3y+λz=02x+y+2z=0\begin{aligned} x + \lambda y + 3z &= 0 \\ 4x + 3y + \lambda z &= 0 \\ 2x + y + 2z &= 0 \end{aligned}

      has non-trivial solution.

SECTION-B

  1. Q. 4
    (20)
    • (a)
Using δ\delta - ∈\in definition of continuity, prove that the function Sin2xSin^{2}x is continuous for all x∈Rx \in R.
      (10)
    • (b)
      Find the asymptotes of the curve (x2−y2)(x+2y)+5(x2+y2)+x+y=0(x^{2}-y^{2})(x+2y) + 5(x^{2}+y^{2}) + x+y = 0
      (10)
  2. Q. 5
    • (a)
      Prove that the maximum value of (1x)x\left(\frac{1}{x}\right)^{x} is e1/ee^{1/e}
      (10)
  3. Q. 6
    (20)
    • (a)
      Find the area enclosed between the curves y=x3y = x^{3} and y=xy = x.
      (10)
    • (b)
A plane passes through a fixed point (a,b,c)(a, b, c) and cuts the coordinate axes in A,B,CA, B, C. Find the locus of the centre of the sphere OABC for different positions of the plane, O is the origin.
      (10)

SECTION-C

  1. Q. 7
    (20)
    • (a)
      Determine P(z)P(z) where
      (10)
      P(z)=(z−z1)(z−z2)(z−z3)(z−z4) with z1=eiπ/4, z2=zˉ1, z3=−z1 and z4=−zˉ1.P(z) = (z - z_{1})(z - z_{2})(z - z_{3})(z - z_{4}) \text{ with } z_{1} = e^{i\pi/4},\ z_{2} = \bar{z}_{1},\ z_{3} = -z_{1} \text{ and } z_{4} = -\bar{z}_{1}.
    • (b)
Find value of the integral ∫c(z−z0)n dz\int_{c} (z - z_{0})^{n}\, dz, (nn any integer) along the circle CC ..........with centre and z0z_{0} radius rr, described in the counter clock wise direction.

  1. Attempt FIVE questions in all by selecting TWO Questions each from SECTION-A&B and ONE Question from SECTION-C. ALL questions carry EQUAL marks.
  2. All the parts (if any) of each Question must be attempted at one place instead of at different places.
  3. Candidate must write Q. No. in the Answer Book in accordance with Q. No. in the Q.Paper.
  4. No Page/Space be left blank between the answers. All the blank pages of Answer Book must be crossed.
  5. Extra attempt of any question or any part of the attempted question will not be considered.
  6. Use of Calculator is allowed.

FPSC's wording, numbering and marks, as printed. Obvious misprints (a garbled word, a broken number) are corrected; everything else is kept as FPSC printed it.

The written exam starts with the MPT

Only candidates who pass the MCQ screening test (MPT) sit the written papers. Practice the 200-question MPT under exam conditions first.
